Myths of Gods: The Trickster

In many mythological stories there is almost always a trickster who has special personalities. For examples of different tricksters are; Hermes, Loki, Krishna, Coyote etc. A trickster that may be familiar to many people is "The Pink Panther" which is seen in a American film. These different tricksters are usually foolish and often take shapes of animals. Although, they are very smart in their actions, and also very sneaky with their plans. These tricksters can also be seen as helpers that aid individuals in the myths that were written. Hermes, messenger of the gods, was also known to be a trickster with his humor and tricky personality. Krishna, avatar of the god Vishnu, has been described to have trickster qualities. Krishna was a different version of Vishnu which would lead him to a path of Dharma. Vishnu needed to find his destiny to fulfill which Krishna would help the god to complete the destiny. Loki, god of trickery, is the actual definition of a trickster. Loki would trick individuals to see what they would want to see. Loki's character likes to cause trouble to others which would fuel his own laughter and pleasure. Loki is not liked by most gods which is why he fuels himself.

  1. I agree with what you say a trickster is and what they stand for. I too read the trickster chapter and enjoyed reading about the many stories of them. My favorite story was about theOld Man Coyote but I also enjoyed the one about Hermes like yourself. I believe that a trickster is the best character when it comes to myth that ever involves them. Although they are goofy and don't seem like they can be trusted, they are still usually the most aware and tricky characters of any book, movie, or myth. In your description of the reading I see Loki being similar to who I enjoyed, Old Man Coyote - Miguel Guzman

  2. Overall, I agreed on your part on saying that a trickster is someone who is a helper. In my opinion, a trickster is someone who uses his talent for the goodness of others but also utilizes his/her humor. An example can be The Joker from The Dark Knight Series. The Joker is all jokes but he is also Batman's moral enemy because he wants to attack Batman and take control of the city. There are multiple versions of a trickster that our society portrays in our world whether it's on TV, movies, etc. We just have to find out whether they are or aren't a trickster -- Jorge Melo
