Place and Object myths: The Garden and The Labyrinth

The Garden

The garden is shown to be sacred place where great events happen in myths. The events that happened in a garden is the birth of Jesus, Buddha, and Dionysos. Other places that are sacred in many myths are a grove or a cave. A cave can be different visuals because it can be a deep dark cave or a cave that leads to an enlightened place. These settings can be used for meditation in the myths where it is a closed place. Trees are a symbol of knowledge and a place where a birth takes place.

The Labyrinth

A Labyrinth is described to keep a half-bull Minotaur to keep it inside. The Labyrinth was made by Daedalus which he was not able to escape himself. The myth about Daedalus and Icarus is a tragic story about Daedalus making a Labyrinth. Daedalus made special wings for both Icarus and himself to be able to escape. When Daedalus completed the maze he gave specific directions to Icarus to follow him. Tragically, Icarus was not able to keep up and he fell into the ocean and drowned. Daedalus later found Icarus and buried him on a Island that is named after him.

  1. Place and Object Myths are properties that belong to myths they are sacred and the other. Myths are very religious and are meaningful cosmos that are charged with energy from their creator. One of the objects that appears in most myths includes the sacred garden. Leeming states "These settings can be used for meditation in the myths where it is a closed place. Trees are a symbol of knowledge and a place where a birth takes place" (Leeming 344). The garden makes myths more sacred and gives more detail to any myth.
